(Saginaw,Michigan)
The Saginaw River has been significantly polluted over the years by a multitude of industries. The State of Michigan has issued a warning against eating ANY fish from the river. As I approached the river, I could feel the heaviness and toxicity of the river. I have never been so profoundly affected, as in meeting the spirit of this river. I asked to be given an understanding of the river. I heard the river speak to me, and I heard these words..."Look at what the have done to me".
As I placed my hands in the water I began to understand more. I understood that the river knew itself to be diminished. The river spoke to me of knowing that it was only a shadow of its former self, of its past glory. I came to share in its deep sense of frustration. The river told me it was embarrassed by what it had become.
As I spent time in prayer, and asking for God's help, I was overwhelmed with love and appreciation for this majestic waterway.
I ask you to join me in praying for the awakening of hearts of those who continue to pollute the Saginaw River. That we may come to understand that what we do to the waters, we do to ourselves. We are one. The Saginaw now knows it is loved. Please hold her dear in your hearts.
